  The municipality of La Oliva is located in the north of the island of Fuerteventura and covers an area of 356.13 km2 (21.5% of the island) including the Lobos Island.

Límites Geográficos Al límite Sur está el municipio de Puerto del Rosario, en una línea que discurre, de Este a Oeste, a través de la caleta del Buen Pobre, el cuchillo de Vallebrón, sigue hacia el pico de la montaña de La Muda, descendiendo por el espigón de La Mesa hasta el malpaís de Montaña Quemada, alcanzando la costa occidental por el Jable de Janubio.

Conforman el municipio los pueblos de La Oliva, Tindaya, Vallebrón, La Caldereta, Tostón o El Cotillo, El Roque, Los Lajares, Villaverde, Corralejo, Majanicho y Parque Holandés . Recientemente, se ha consolidado el asentamiento de La Capellanía, entre Villaverde y Corralejo. Se une a estos pueblos la isla de Lobos.

The territorial delimitation of the municipality has not undergone significant variations throughout its history, as it was based on the ecclesiastical structuring that took place during the 18th century.

In 1837 the island came under the administration of the Spanish Crown, thanks to the abolition of the lordships.

In the same decade, the restructuring of the Spanish territory into municipal districts made possible the creation of the Town Council of La Oliva and its municipal district.
